SLA announces new geospatial collaborations

The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) announced new collaborations to solve challenges through geospatial technology at GEO Connect Asia 2023 on March 15. Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Sustainability and Environment, and Ministry of Transport, was present at the trade show and conference to felicitate the partnerships.

The SLA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Container Depot and Logistics Association (Singapore) or CDAS. The two organisations will collaborate for two years on using geospatial data on road conditions and restrictions to help route heavy vehicles operated by CDAS’ member companies.

Additionally, SLA introduced Singapore’s first bilateral collaboration with the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (GEOSA). Over three years, the two will exchange knowledge and experiences on various topics related to geospatial technology, such as developing Digital Twins and geospatial products and services, and digital transformation in the geospatial industry.

Another initiative taken up by SLA with the help of SG Enable and Gardens by the Bay is the mapping of barrier-free routes for wheelchair users to easily navigate public areas. This is part of SLA’s support for Singapore’s Enabling Masterplan 2030, which strives to make the city more inclusive by 2030.

Data relating to routes that are barrier-free such as those with wheelchair-accessible covered linkways, ramps, footpaths, pedestrian crossings, overhead bridges with lifts are collected and mapped in Bukit Merah and Gardens by the Bay. SLA has developed a pilot testing app with the barrier-free access routes in these two areas in order to gain feedback from wheelchair users. Over the next six months, the app will undergo further testing and improvement in additional areas, with the ultimate purpose of adding a barrier-free access routing function to OneMap as an additional mode of wayfinding, to supplement the existing public transport, cycling and driving modes.
