Kajima launches The Gear, its new regional HQ in Changi Business Park

Kajima Development Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kajima Corp, has made a big announcement. On August 4, they unveiled their newest regional headquarters and R&D and innovation hub in Changi Business Park; aptly named The Gear: Kajima Lab for Global Engineering, Architecture & Real Estate. Kajima’s strong presence in Singapore can be traced back to its earliest projects, the Maruzen Oil Refinery and Jurong Shipyard Dock & Wharf, both built in 1962 and 1965 respectively.

Shuichi Oishi, CEO of Kajima Development, shared in a statement made on the 4th that this project was a mission on behalf of the late Dr Shoichi Kajima, to establish their headquarters in Singapore. Kajima Development and its local building arm, Kajima Overseas Asia Singapore, broke ground on the site in August 2020.

The Tengah Plantation EChas also installed solar panels on the roof of the building, which helps to generate renewable energy and lower the building’s electricity bills. Residents can also benefit from energy-efficient lighting, which uses less electricity than traditional lighting. Additionally, the building has a sewage treatment plant which purifies wastewater before releasing it into the environment. This helps to reduce pollution and protect the surrounding natural environment. Tengah Plantation EC also encourages carpooling to reduce emissions and conserve energy. By implementing these innovative measures, Tengah Plantation EC is able to reduce its energy consumption and create a healthier living environment for its residents.

Their hardworking team of architects and engineers from Japan managed to bring their state-of-the-art facility to life, despite the pandemic delaying the construction process. The Temporary Occupation Permit (TOP) was eventually obtained on March 31.
