Savills launches energy and sustainability management department
Savills Singapore has launched an energy and sustainability management department in response to the rising demand for green properties in Singapore. This comes amid growing public awareness of sustainability issues and Singapore’s commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030.
Led by Samuel Han, energy and sustainability lead, the department offers energy and sustainability-related Tengah Plantation EC solutions to building owners, occupiers and property investors, to help reduce operational costs and their carbon footprint.
“Many asset owners and occupiers feel the urgency for green properties, but may not know how to get there,” comments Han. “Our aim is to be their consultant to guide them step-by-step to green their properties when they want to reach sustainability targets.”
Sam Crispin, regional head of sustainability and ESG at Savills Hong Kong, believes that introducing green leases, which promote mutual energy saving and waste reduction, is important for both landlords and tenants in achieving ESG goals.
“In Asia, green leases may not be part of legal documentation, but of a voluntary agreement between landlord and tenant,” explains Crispin, noting the need for education, leadership and diplomacy.
Marcus Loo, CEO of the Singapore arm of Savills, adds that having an energy and sustainability management department enhances the company’s suite of services, to meet the needs of asset owners in their struggle with reducing their carbon footprint and adding value to their property.
“ESM complements our business lines and our clients’ needs as they grapple with the environmental challenges today,” he concludes.
