CDL marked its 60th anniversary with a diamond jubilee celebration held at Orchard Hotel Singapore on Sept 5. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong was the guest of honour, paying homage to the remarkable growth of the company since its establishment in 1963 with just eight employees.

Today, CDL is a global real estate company with $31 billion in assets and over 8,000 employees that spans five continents. Moreover, its hospitality arm, Millennium & Copthorne Hotels, has grown from one hotel to over 155 establishments all over the world.

Chairman Kwek Leng Beng gave a speech at the event, taking the opportunity to reflect on the group’s progress since he and his late father and Hong Leong Group founder Kwek Hong Png bought a block of CDL shares in 1969. He proudly proclaimed that their initial home-based venture developed into a large-scale international operation.

CDL’s Group CEO Sherman Kwek also took to the stage to honor and pay tribute to CDL’s past and present leaders. In addition, he emphasized the company’s core values of collaboration, integrity, and innovation.

In honor of its 60th anniversary, CDL has made a number of charitable efforts. Working with the National Council of Social Service, they set up a new wellness centre for children and families housed at City Square Mall. Furthermore, they raised funds for Community Chest, enhanced the well-being of its migrant workers in partnership with MigrantWell Singapore, and built a new annexe for its Singapore Sustainability Academy.

The event celebrated the remarkable achievements of CDL over the last 60 years demonstrating the importance of values and collaboration in an organization’s success. With a bright future ahead of them, the future of CDL looks even brighter.
